Class A Asbestos Removal License
Work, Health & Safety (WHS) laws commenced on 1st January 2012 in NSW, QLD, ACT, NT and the Commonwealth. South Australia and Tasmania commenced the WHS laws on 1st January 2013.
To comply with WHS Regulations Class A Asbestos Removal License holders are required to provide evidence of a certified safety management system (not required in ACT). Examples of safety management systems are AS/NZS 4801 and OHSAS18001.
Who does this effect?
A person must not carry out, or direct any worker to carry out the removal of friable asbestos unless they hold a Class A Asbestos Removal Licence.
For asbestos removalists the WHS Regulation means these businesses need to have their Safety Management System certified. Those who engage asbestos removalists will also be required to verify their asbestos removalists are certified, or are in the process of obtaining certification.
